New Delhi: Days after Delhi-NCR was shaken by a bomb scare in over 200 schools, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and several government hospitals in the national capital received bomb threats via emails on Sunday.
The bomb threats were reported from Burari Hospital in northern Delhi and Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Mangolpuri in outer Delhi, a senior official of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said.
Refusing to take a chance, authorities decided to deploy bomb disposal squads and fire tenders at the different sites.
Burari Hospital was the first to report a bomb threat at 3.15 pm, according to fire officials.
“An email was received at Burari Hospital regarding a bomb threat. Local police, bomb squad, dog squad were rushed to the spot. Teams are checking the hospital. Nothing suspicious has been found yet,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) M K Meena.
Just over an hour later, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital reported a similar threat.
“Soon after the call, we immediately pressed two fire engines at both the locations. Our teams are still there as the search operation is going on,” a DFS official said.
Police revealed that 10 other hospitals, including Hindu Rao Hospital, received similar threat emails.
DFS received the bomb threat call from IGI Airport at around 6.15 pm.
“Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot,” informed DFS chief Garg.
Early this month, hundreds of schools received identical emails, alleging the presence of explosives in their premises.
There was widespread panic, leading to immediate evacuations and thorough searches of the educational institutions.
After nothing was found, Delhi Police approached Russian mailing service company Mail.ru via Interpol to trace the exact source of the e-mails.
