Mumbai: Like actor-comedian Rajpal Yadav, Ameesha Patel’s name is also connected to a cheque-bounce case.
The ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ actress faces a non-bailable warrant from Moradabad court in a 2017 case filed by Pawan Kumar Verma.
After Ameesha failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons, a non-bailable warrant has been issued against her which could lead to her arrest.
The case dates back to 2017 when Verma, owner of Moradab
ad-based event company Dream Vision, filed a complaint claiming that the actress was invited to perform at a high-profile wedding and was paid an advance of Rs 11 lakh.
However, Ameesha allegedly cancelled her performance at the last minute, causing embarrassment and financial loss to the event organisers.
Verma further claimed that when he sought a refund, Ameesha avoided repayment for a long time.
Later a part of the money was returned, but a cheque issued for the remaining amount bounced.
The matter has been pending for several years.
On noting repeated delays, the court has now taken a stricter action and warned that defiance would not be tolerated.
The next hearing in the cheque-bounce case has been scheduled for March 27. If the actress fails to appear for the hearing again, she could be arrested and produced before the court.
