Ranchi: A day after the alleged sexual assault of a Spanish travel vlogger, a 21-year-old stage performer was allegedly gangraped by three co-artistes, who spiked her drink, in Jharkhand’s Palamu district.
All the three co-artistes hailed from Palamu.
According to reports, the incident took place at Vishrampur, around 200 km from Ranchi, on Saturday night and came to light on Sunday when the survivor filed a complaint with police. While two culprits have been arrested, a hunt is on for the third. ‘Two accused have been arrested and the survivor has been admitted to a hospital in Palamu where her medical test will be conducted,” Vishrampur Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rakesh Singh told PTI.
He said that the female artiste had come from Chhattisgarh for a programme at Vishrampur. Since the programme was not organised for some reason, she left from another function in Hussainabad with her male co-artistes, who gave her some intoxicant and then took turns to rape her in the car. “They then left her beside the road in an unconscious state and fled,” Singh added.
Late on Friday, a Spanish woman, touring the country on bike with her husband, was gangraped in Dumka. Seven persons were involved in the crime which took place in Kurumahat under Hansdiha police limits when she was en route to Nepal from West Bengal. Four of the accused have been arrested till now, while search is on for the others.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Police have handed over a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the husband of the woman. “We are providing all the help to them (rape survivor and husband). Under the victim compensation scheme, we have given them Rs 10 lakh. We will try for a speedy trial and conviction of the accused,” Deputy Commissioner Anjaneyulu Dodde told NDTV.
