New Delhi: Former cricketer Shikhar Dhawan arrived at Enforcement Directorate (ED) office here on Thursday for questioning in connection with a money laundering probe linked to an “illegal” sports betting app, 1xBet.
According to reports, the 39-year-old former India cricketer was asked to join the investigation after it emerged that he had promoted the betting platform on social media. The probe agency will record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Last month, the federal probe agency, which is probing illegal betting apps accused of defrauding several individuals and investors of crores of rupees or evading substantial tax amounts, had questioned former cricketer Suresh Raina for more than eight hours in this case.
Notably, the Centre recently banned real-money online gaming, which had become increasingly addictive, leading to serious financial harm and social distress, by bringing a legislation.
