Washington: Donald Trump stunned the rest of the world by ordering military strikes on Venezuela, following which President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured and taken to the United States.
Amid widespread condemnation of the attack, is the US President already planning his next global coup?
A social media picture posted by the wife of one of Trump’s influential aides sent internet on overdrive.
The post in question is a picture of Greenland, painted in the colours of the US flag, by Katie Miller, wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
Katie’s post had a single word above it: “SOON”.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants Greenland to become an annexed part of the United States.
Since Greenland is an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark, there was strong protest after Katie’s post.
Denmark on Sunday made its displeasure known after the wife of President Donald Trump’s most influential aide posted a social media picture of Greenland painted in the colours of the US flag.
Katie Miller — wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller — put the contentiously altered image of the Danish autonomous territory on her X feed late Saturday, after the US military operation against Venezuela.
Her post had a single word above it: “SOON”.

Jesper Moeller Soerensen, Denmark’s ambassador to the US, made his displeasure known in no uncertain terms.
“We expect full respect for the territorial integrity of Denmark,” Soerensen responded to Katie Miller’s image.
He gave a “friendly reminder” that his country, a NATO member, has “significantly boosted its Arctic security efforts” and worked together with the US on that.
“We are close allies and should continue to work together as such,” Soerensen wrote.
That Trump is serious about annexing Greenland came through in the act of his appointment of an envoy to the Danish territory, which has drawn the ire of both Copenhagen and the European Union.
Katie’s post should be a cause of concern for Denmark as her husband Stephen Miller is seen as the architect of many of Trump’s policies, including the hardline immigration drive and domestic agenda.
What is significant is that Trump said after Saturday’s action on the South American nation that the US will now “run” Venezuela indefinitely and tap its huge oil reserves.
In the case of Greenland, Trump has said that making the Danish territory part of the United States will serve America’s national security interests, given its strategic location on the Arctic. Greenland is also rich in key critical minerals used in high-tech sectors.
