Bhubaneswar: The farmers of Odisha, who were on a dharna against the new agriculture policy of the Centre, were engaged in a scuffle with police in the city on Thursday.
The farmers under the banner of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS), a State level farmers’ organisation, were staging the dharna in the city demanding roll-back of the new policy for the last few days.
On Thursday morning, they took out a rally to Odisha Assembly as a mark of solidarity with thousands of farmers who have been staging a dharna on Delhi’s Singhu-Tikri border since November 26. As they tried to defy the road blockade on the way, police opposed them. As the farmers continued the march, a scuffle ensued.
On November 5, hundreds of farmers led by NNKS national convener Akshay Kumar organised a rally in Bhubaneswar on the same issue. They sat on a dharna on the NH after they were prevented by the police to march ahead. A scuffle broke out between the outfit members and police.
