Agni V Missile With 5,000-Km Range Successfully Test-Fired Off Odisha Coast

Balasore: The night trial of the surface to surface ballistic missile, Agni-V, was successfully carried out from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast on Wednesday.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the test at approximately 7.50 pm. The missile, which uses a three-stage solid fuelled engine, is capable of striking targets at a range upto 5,000 km with a very high degree of accuracy.

The successful test of Agni-5 is in line with India’s stated policy to have ‘credible minimum deterrence’ that underpins the commitment to ‘No First Use’, a Ministry of Defence release stated.

The DRDO had conducted successfully test-fired Agni Prime missile, an advanced version of Agni-1, from the Interim Test Range at Chandipur off the Odisha coast on June 28.
