Balasore: Amid nationwide protests over new recruitment rules in the armed forces under the Agnipath scheme, a youth from Soro in Odisha’s Balasore district, who wanted to join the Indian Army, died by suicide allegedly after a written exam for recruitment into the army was cancelled.
The youth was identified as Dhananjay Mohanty of Tentei village in Soro. The incident took place on Wednesday.
Mohanty had cleared the physical fitness test one-and-a-half years ago, but the written exam was cancelled several times in view of COVID-19. Finally, he had received the admit card for the exam scheduled to be held on August 30.
His family alleged that after the announcement of the ‘Agnipath’ scheme, the Army cancelled the written exam, which led to his taking the extreme step.
