Balangir: A village agriculture worker (VAW), Subhendu Behera, was suspended on Thursday for demanding bribe from a flood-hit farmer in Balangir district.
Balangir collector Arindam Dakua took the action against the VAW of Puintala block after a video showing Behera demanding bribe from a farmer at his home went viral on social media.
The farmer told the media that Behera had called him to his home. The VAW told him that he will be given the post-flood assistance of Rs 2,000 if he paid him Rs 200. Similarly, for payments Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, he will be given assistance of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively, he added.
