Mumbai: The date — June 29, 2024.
The venue – Kensington Oval, Bridgetown (Barbados).
The occasion – ICC T20 World Cup final.
It was a memorable day for Indian cricket as the men in blue turned the match against South Africa on its head to lift the trophy.
But how did skipper Rohit Sharma and his teammates forget about the World Cup conquest?
A Dream11 advertisement, featuring Rohit, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, shows the players failing to recall last year’s triumph in the Caribbean.
As sports presenter Gaurav Kapur asks them if it’s time to be crowned winners ‘fir se’ (once again) in the upcoming Champions Trophy, Pant asks with a frown, “fir se? pehle kab bane the? (once again? When were we champions before?)”
Rohit and Rahul are equally surprised and ask, ‘kab’ (when)?
Those around are bemused and worried as they try to figure out how the very players who had helped India clinch the T20 World Cup can forget that momentous occasion.
Then, in steps Virat Kohli to unravel the ‘plot’.
Watch the hilarious ad shared by Dream11, the Indian cricket team’s sponsor:
Pakistan are the hosts of the ICC Champions Trophy, but India will be playing all their matches in Dubai.
Rohit’s men begin their campaign with a match against Bangladesh in Group A on February 20. They will then face arch rivals Pakistan on February 23, followed by a clash against New Zealand on March 2.
The top two teams from Groups A and B (Australia, England, South Africa and Afghanistan) will qualify for the semifinals.
