Puri: Apprehending law and order situation during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Puri visit, Town Police on Saturday detained convener of Jagannath Sena Priyadarshan Patnaik.
Police picked up Patnaik from his house in the morning and brought him to the police station where he is detained. He will be released on the departure of the Chief Minister.
Commenting on his detention on the social media, Patnaik has said the Chief Minister should not have come to Puri if he is so apprehensive.
Official sources said the Chief Minister will attend the Mission Shakti programme which will be attended by over 50,000 members of the women self-help groups (SHGs).
On the occasion, the Chief Minister will hand over a cheque of Rs 15,000 to each new women SHG, Rs 3000 for a mobile phone to each woman SHGs and Rs 25 lakh to the women federation at the block level.
“The objective of the meeting is to empower the women and make them self-dependent,” said Puri MLA and Revenue minister Maheswar Mohanty.
