London: Indian cricketers and support staff currently touring England wore black armbands on Friday as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the horrible plane crash in Ahmedabad 24 hours earlier.
A minute’s silence was also observed to express solidarity with the affected families.
The Indians are playing a four-day intra-squad game in Beckenham, as part of preparation for the five-Test series against England which gets underway at Headingley, in Leeds, on June 20.
The Shubman Gill-led Indian team and Abhimanyu Easwaran-captained India A lined up along with members of the support staff to pay their homage before play started, according to a BCCI post on social media.

At Lord’s as well, ahead of the third day’s action in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, players of Australia and South Africa paid their respect to the Air India crash victims in Ahmedabad. Both sets of players sported black armbands and observed a minute’s silence along with the crowd, before the first ball was bowled.
The London Gatwick-bound Air India flight AI-171, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed into a residential area 30 seconds after taking off from operating from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
There was just one survivor, a British national who miraculously managed to walk out of the wreckage.
There were a number of casualties on ground as well as the Dreamliner aircraft crashlanded on a hostel building of BJ Medical College.
