Bhubaneswar: Congress supremo and AICC president Rahul Gandhi on Friday appointed Jitendra Singh as the new in-charge of Odisha.
Former Union Minister of State for Sports, Singh would replace his predecessor BK Hariprasad against whom several members of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) had lodged complaint with the party supremo.
There was infighting in the OPCC on removal of Hariprasad. To resolve the issue, a three-member AICC observer team had come to Bhubaneswar in which Singh was one of them. After interacting with the PCC members the team had later submitted its report to Rahul Gandhi.
Former OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik said as Hariprasad had remained as Odisha in-charge for quite a long time, there was a possibility of change.
Talking about the new assignment given to Singh, Patnaik said he is young and has a practical insight. “I believe that under his guidance, the Congress in Odisha would be more organised,” he pointed out.
