AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Bags Centre’s KAYA-KALP Award For Third Year

Bhubaneswar: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar has bagged the Central government’s KAYA-KALP Award for cleanliness for third consecutive year. It has won the 1st position for 2019-20 in category B with a prize money of Rs 2 crore.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan presented the award to the institute in a virtual ceremony at New Delhi on Tuesday. The Centre instituted the KAYA-KALP Award as part of the ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan in 2015 as a nationwide initiative to recognise and felicitate public health facilities that demonstrate high level of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control measures.

In 2018-19 and 2017-18, the AllMS-Bhubaneswar bagged second place in Category B with Rs one crore prize money. Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane, Director of the institute; Dr Sachidananda Mohanty, Medical Superintendent and PK Ray, DDA led the multidisciplinary teams to cater to each of the six domains under the scheme.

Besides AllMS-Bhubaneswar, DHH Anugul was presented the award of KAYA-Kalp winner hospital while DHH Kalahandi was runners up hospital in DHH category, SDH Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district winner hospital in SDH/CHC category. Total 19 DHHs, 78 SDH/CHC, 66 Urban PHCs, 156 PHCs and 18 HWC sub-centres qualified for Kayakalp award in the year.

The award money is utilised to further develop the institute and incentivise the grass-root healthcare workers who are the real champions in this scheme. It is also used in continuous training of the staff to inculcate a culture of cleanliness and sanitation.
