Bhubaneswar: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, recently opened a special unit for heat stroke patients.
“The unit was started last week under the Ayush department. It has six beds and more than 15 patients have already undergone treatment at the centre,” informed AIIMS-Bbubaneswar medical superintendent Dr Dillip Kumar Parida.
He further said that the heads of General Medicine, Trauma and Emergency, and Ayush departments heldan emergency meeting to strategise and ensure efficient management of heatstroke cases. “The unit has adequate stock of medicines and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and the staff have been advised to remain vigilant to respond to any emergency,” he added.
Assistant Professor of General Medicine Dr Srikanta Behera has been appointed as the nodal officer of the unit.
“The unit aims to provide prompt and effective treatment to individuals suffering from sunstroke,” said executive director Dr Ashutosh Biswas while advising people to avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
“Carrying an umbrella, a wet towel, and a water bottle if you have to step outdoors,” he added.
