New Delhi: Chinese hackers are suspected to have carried out a cyber attack on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here, compromising personal data of millions of patients including VVIP like politicians and celebrities.
The stolen data was sold on the dark web, India Today reported quoting sources.
Over 1,600 searches were found on dark web for stolen AIIMS data. The stolen data includes details of VVIPs, including politicians and celebrities.
Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) officials informed that five servers were hacked. The Forensic team is examining the data leak.
IFSO officials, who are handling a hacking case for the first time, believe that no data was lost. According to them, primary motive of the hackers was extortion of money.
The hackers have allegedly demanded Rs 200 crore in cryptocurrency from AIIMS.
The breach, detected on Wednesday, is feared to have compromised details of around 3-4 crore patients.
Patient care services in the emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and laboratory wings are being managed manually as the servers remain down.
Sanitisation of the AIIMS network is in progress. Antivirus solutions have been installed in 1,200 out of 5,000 computers, while 20 of 50 servers are being scanned 24×7.
