Bhubaneswar: An ailing elephant calf died on Tuesday at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT). It was undergoing treatment here since the last three days.
According to preliminary reports, the calf died of Herpes virus. Though its treatment was started immediately, the infection had aggravated by then.
The eight-month-old calf was rescued from Hindol forest sub-division in Dhenkanal and brought to OUAT. The calf was also suffering from high fever and separated from its herd.
