Sundargarh: A sick female elephant died while undergoing treatment in Raigiri Forest under Jarda Range of Bonai Forest Division in Sundargarh district on Wednesday.
The elephant was sick and a team of forest officials and veterinary doctors rushed to the spot on Tuesday on being informed about its health condition. The pachyderm had also sustained injuries in its legs.
However, it died during treatment.
Although the exact cause behind the death of the elephant is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that it died due to old age ailments.
The Forest Department seized the carcass of the elephant for postmortem.
