Baripada: A tiger cub was found inside a house at a remote village near Similipal in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Friday, triggering panic in the area.
According to officials, the incident took place in Khaparakhai village, adjacent to the Similipal National Park, in the Karanjia Forest Division.
The tiger cub was spotted inside a cattle-shed late Thursday night. The animal was growling, prompting the owner of the house to raise an alarm. The cub subsequently left the cattle shed and entered an unoccupied house nearby, after which villagers informed forest officials.
“The cub remained inside the unoccupied house until Friday morning,” said Prakash Chand Gogineni, field director of Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR).
On examination, forest officials found that the cub, aged around seven to eight months, required veterinary care and rescued it around noon, he said.
Gogineni said the cub will be provided veterinary care and it will be shifted to a larger enclosure inside the core area of Similipal.
The animal will be released into the wild once it is fit to hunt and survive on its own, he said.
