Berhampur: An ailing tusker was found dead in Karadabani-Beruabadi area under Tilisingi section of Ghumusar (North) forest division in Odisha’s Ganjam on Sunday.
As per information, locals had spotted the ailing elephant moving near a creek in the forest on Saturday and informed the Forest department officials.
On being informed, Forest department personnel visited the spot and observed the pachyderm’s movement. They ascertained that the animal had been sick for the last several days. However, it was alleged that the tusker was not attended and medical care was not provided on an urgent basis. Locals claimed that no step weas taken to provide medical aid to the animal.
Autopsy of the tusker’s carcass will be conducted on Monday morning, sources said.
