Bhubaneswar: Eleven-year-old white tigress Bijaya died at Nandankana zoo in Bhubaneswar on Saturday following illness.
According to sources, the tigress was suffering from age-related ailments for more than a week and was kept in quarantine in a special isolation ward.
A special team of doctors from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) was keeping a vigil on her health condition after two veterinarians visited the zoo for her check-up.
With the death of Bijaya, the number of white tigers at Nandankanan slipped to 5.
It is pertinent to mention here that white tigress Bijaya delivered three cubs on March 28, 2021. She had given birth to two cubs each earlier on August 20, 2016, and September 17, 2017, respectively.
