Cuttack: In a tragic incident, an ailing woman succumbed at SCB Medical College and Hospital on Sunday, a day after she was brought to the Cuttack hospital on a trolley rickshaw by her husband from a village in Puri district.
The woman’s husband said he didn’t have money to hire a vehicle and therefore he hired a trolly rickshaw at Rs 50 per day and carried his wife from Dasabidyadharpur village in Sakhigopal block on Saturday morning. The duo arrived at SCB in the evening after covering a distance of about 70 km.
However, the woman died while undergoing treatment. “My wife would have survived had she reached the hospital earlier,” he said.
SCB Emergency Officer Bhubanananda Maharana said that the hospital authorities had admitted the patient in the casualty ward soon after her arrival.
“We had conducted an ultrasound of the patient yesterday and found that she had suspected malignancy as she had stomach cancer. We had decided to conduct a CT Scan on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, her condition worsened in the morning and she died at 12.20 pm,” he said.
