Bhubaneswar: The Asian Institute of Public Health (AIPH) University has become the first University of Odisha and the second in the country to introduce two-year Post-Graduate courses in virology from the current academic session.
The two-year course includes virology, vaccinology, chronic disease epidemiology, immunology and infectious diseases including zoonotic diseases (caused by germs that spread between animals and people) like SARS CoV-2. The course will have four semesters and will be taught through continuing education evaluation mode by a team of faculty of international repute.
The university has a sophisticated Bio-safety Level-3 laboratory for research and diagnostic work involving various microbes which can be transmitted by aerosols and/or cause severe diseases. These diseases include, Francisella tularensis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Chlamydia psittaci, Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus, Eastern equine encephalitis virus, SARS-CoV-1, SARS-CoV-2, MERS-CoV, Coxiella burnetii, Rift Valley fever virus, Rickettsia rickettsii, several species of Brucella, chikungunya, yellow fever virus, West Nile virus, Yersinia pestis etc.
To ensure the skill development among the students, the University holds the monthly seminar technical training so that they can be recruited by the reputed institutes after completion of their courses.
Established in 2008, AIPH University is recognised by the UGC and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
