Kannur: An air hostess was arrested for allegedly smuggling nearly 1 kilogram of gold from Muscat to Kannur by concealing it in her rectum, PTI reported quoting a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) source.
Officers of DRI (Kannur), acting on specific intelligence by DRI Cochin, intercepted the cabin crew member who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Muscat on May 28.
On being personally searched, Kolkata native Surabhi Khatun was found to be carrying 960 grams of smuggled gold in compound form which she concealed in her rectum.
After interrogation and completion of formalities, Surabhi was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate who remanded her to 14 days judicial custody in a women’s prison in Kannur.
