Bhubaneswar: The air quality in at least two urban areas of Odisha was categorised as very poor by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Thursday.
As per the average air quality index (AQI) for the last 24 hours released by the CPCB, the quality of air in Angul and Balasore turned out to be very poor. Similarly, the air quality in state capital Bhubaneswar and the millennium city of Cuttack was described as poor.
The air quality in Angul town was categorised as very poor with an index value of 340 by the CPCB. Similarly, the air quality in Balasore town was described as very poor with an index value of 304 by the central agency.
As per the CPCB data, the air quality in the capital city of Bhubaneswar was categorised as poor with an index value of 277.
Likewise, the air quality in Cuttack was described as poor with an index value of 284.
A senior official in the department of forest, environment and climate change said that the air quality in these places appeared to have deteriorated due to some temporary reasons, including construction and other activities.
