Bhubaneswar: Bharti Airtel Limited (Airtel) on Monday announced its largest-ever roll out of ultra-fast 5G services in 125 cities, including four places in Odisha – Kendrapada, Jajpur Road, Balangir and Talcher.

Airtel 5G Plus service is already available to customers in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Puri, Angul, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Balasore, Bhawanipatna, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Paradip and Bargarh in the state.

The telecom operator has already confirmed that users won’t require any new SIM to enable 5G services. Also, the existing 4G plans will offer 5G services at no additional cost. To be able to use 5G services, users will require a 5G smartphone with 5G software update installed in it.

With this, Airtel has reached every Indian State and UT with its 5G services and plans to cover all cities and significant towns by March 2024. It is now available in over 265 cities in the country. Airtel 5G is said to be around 20-30 times faster than 4G and it is only operator offering 5G for commercial use.

“5G has revolutionised the world of internet, ushering new era of connectivity and communications that will prove to be a game-changer for the country. At Airtel, we remain committed to delivering the highest quality of network and service to our customers as we roll-out 125 more cities today. Airtel was the first in the country to offer 5G services in October 2022 and today’s mega launch is our promise to connect every Airtel customer in the country with ultra-fast Airtel 5G Plus. Our 5G rollout is on track to cover all towns and key rural areas by March 2024,” Bharti Airtel CTO Randeep Sekhon said.

Similarly, Jio users across 13 cities in Odisha are now enjoying Jio True 5G services. The service, which was initially available in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Rourkela and Berhampur, was extended to Balasore, Baripada, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Puri and Sambalpur on January 24. The service was made available in Balangir and NALCO in Angul district on January 31 and at Talcher on February 7.
