Going by the popularity of video streaming sites such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, Alt Balaji, etc in the country, Airtel is launching a video and music streaming service, Wynk Tube.
The app will be available on Android. Airtel is targetting its 200 million smartphone users in Tier II, Tier III and villages as well. The size of the app is just 5MB, which is a big plus for the target market. There is content in 12 Indian regional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu and Bhojpuri.
The app also has voice search.
Airtel users will get free unlimited access while others will get 30 days free trial, after which they will have to pay Rs 99 per month to avail premium services.
