Mumbai: Ajinkya Rahane and KL Rahul are back in Team India squad announced by the BCCI for the upcoming final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023) against Australia to be played at The Oval in England from June 7-11.
While Rahane must have impressed the selectors with his stellar run in IPL 2023, Rahul has been given a chance as the backup opener and potential wicketkeeper-batter as well after being dropped from the last two Tests of the Australia series.
The other major reason is the absence of middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, the Hindustan Times reported.
Rohit Sharma will captain the side and is expected to open the innings with Shubman Gill with KS Bharat and Virat Kohli making their way into the team as well.
After defeating Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, India would hope for a similar outcome against the Kangaroos at The Oval.
India’s Test squad WTC final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, K L Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.
