New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in a meeting with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan officials had a detailed discussion on the situation in Afghanistan after the takeover by the Taliban.
The officials expressed concerns over the sharp increase in terrorist threats from Afghanistan recently. According to sources, officials from Tajikistan highlighted the gravity of situation in Afghanistan.
India is hosting a high-level regional security talk over the developments in Afghanistan. Doval will chair the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue to take place on Wednesday. According to sources, several central Asian nations, including Russia and Iran, have confirmed participation.
It is for the first time that all central Asian countries — Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan — are taking part in this format of dialogue.
According to NDTV’s sources, there was a convergence of assessments on Tuesday’s meeting with Uzbek and Tajik officials. Secretary, Security Council of Tajikistan, Nasrullo Rahmatjon Mahmudzoda, and Secretary, Security Council, Uzbekistan, Victor Makhmudov, were present at the meeting ahead of the “Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan”.
In the meeting with Uzbek officials, both sides discussed the looming humanitarian crisis in the war-torn nation and agreed that Afghanistan people must decide the future of the country, according to sources.
NDTV sources further claimed that both countries felt that the legitimacy of any Afghan government within Afghanistan was important before the issue of its international recognition.
