Mumbai: After the success of ‘Kesari’ and ‘Good Newwz’, Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar have teamed up for a pre-Independence era project revolving around the life of lawyer C. Sankaran Nair.
Announcing details, Johar’s Dharma Productions on Friday shared a poster and wrote, “An untold story, an unheard truth. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan & Ananya Panday – this untitled film is releasing in cinemas on 14th March 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi.”
The poster had a text which read, “The Untitled film on the shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India’s top barrister C. Sankaran Nair to fight an unprecedented battle against the British empire.”
The yet to be titled film is an adaption of ‘The Case That Shook The Empire’, written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat.
Akshay will be playing the role of eminent lawyer and politician Sankaran Nair, who fought for India’s independence against the British.
The film, set during the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, is based on real-life events following a defamation lawsuit initiated by Lieutenant Governor of Punjab Michael O’Dwyer against Nair, a former member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the movie is being produced by Dharma Productions, Akshay’s home production Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective.
Akshay apart, R Madhavan and Ananya Pandey will play pivotal roles in the film, which is slated to hit the theatres on March 14, 2025.
