New Delhi: Six days after the sensational killings of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf while in custody, Islamist militant group Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) has threatened to carry out attacks on India to avenge the murders.
In its Eid message, Al-Qaeda fumed over the killings of Atiq and Ashraf, and termed the gangsters as “martyrs”.
In its 7-page magazine released by As-Sahab, the propaganda media wing of Al-Qaeda, the terror group also promised to “liberate Muslims.”
Atiq and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range when police personnel were escorting them to a medical college for a check-up. Three men posing as journalists shot at them from close range as Atiq was speaking to mediapersons after getting down from police van.
The brothers, who were both jailed in Prayagraj, were in handcuffs when they were killed in full view of camera crews around 10 pm on April 15.
