Rourkela: A possible train mishap was averted on the Howrah-Mumbai up line near Rajgangpur-Kansbahal railway station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district due to prompt action by an alert gangman, reports said on Monday.
The gangman, while undertaking routine patrolling on the tracks on Sunday night, noticed that the fish plates had been removed by some miscreants on Howrah-Mumbai up line.
He immediately informed the railway senior officials about the incident and also raised a red flag on the railway line to alert loco pilot.
A technical team of the railways rushed to the spot after getting information and carried out the necessary repair work. Normalcy in train traffic was restored on the track after around an hour, sources said.
While praising the alert gangman for his presence of mind and prompt action, the railway authorities have also ordered a probe into the incident, they added.
