Alia Bhatt Responds To Backlash Over ‘Gone Girl’ Interview At BAFTA

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who garnered significant attention on the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) red carpet, responded to the backlash over her ‘Gone Girl’ interview, saying she is a cool girl.

In a viral video clip, when Alia was asked to name a movie with an impressive plot twist, the actress mentioned ‘Gone Girl’ after a momentary pause, triggering a flurry of reactions on social media.

A section of viewers wondered whether the actress had actually seen the film, while some suggested that she looked visibly nervous and was trying to fake a confident, international-star persona.

Following backlash, Alia opened up during a conversation with fashion commentator Diet Sabya. “Why is it being talked about so much? Is it because of my expression?”

Sharing what was going on in her mind during the interview, the actress clarified, “So basically, I really think it is the best twist but I have not liked watched it in… when did it release? 10 years ago? So I have not watched it after that. So when she was like, ‘that monologue,’ I was like ‘haan’ (yes) and I was going back in my head that oh ya, ‘that monologue, correct correct correct’ and she was mentioned cleaning the floor and I was like like ‘haan’ (yes) so I was like going back in time and I guess that’s what you saw. I am a cool girl. I am a sweet girl. But I could be… total… I mean I can be like… I am more sweet than I am cool. Actually, I don’t think I am cool. I am uncool girl, my sister would say that.”

On the work front, Alia will next be seen in the female-led spy thriller ‘Alpha’ along with Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol.

She will also be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’, a romantic drama, also featuring her husband Ranbir Kapoor and actor Vicky Kaushal.
