Alin Sherin Abraham Becomes Youngest Organ Donor In Kerala; Five Beneficiaries Receive Organs

Thiruvananthapuram: Ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham became Kerala’s youngest posthumous organ donor on Friday.

The child was critically injured in a road accident on February 5, following which she was declared brain dead by doctors. Her parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, then took the decision to donate her organs, as reported by ANI.

Alin’s liver, two kidneys, heart valve and corneas were donated. While a six-month-old baby undergoing treatment received the liver, becoming the youngest in the state to undergo a posthumous liver transplant, the kidneys were allocated to another child.

ients in need. Veena George, health minister of Kerala, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the grieving parents, saying their decision would help save multiple lives.

Alin was the victim of a car crash at Pallam Borma junction in Pathanamthitta district. A car coming from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle and she sustained severe injuries. Alin’s mother and grandparents were also critically injured.

She underwent initial treatment in Changanassery and Tiruvalla, before being the shifted to Kochi, where she was declared brain-dead on February 13.

The family consented to organ donation soon after and the organs were transported from the hospital to various medical centres in Thiruvananthapuram under the coordination of Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS).

The state home department provided necessary support by arranging a green corridor. The organs reached Thiruvananthapuram in record time. Authorities said the donation stands as a powerful message of hope amid tragedy.

Alin will be laid to rest on Sunday, her family confirmed.
