Alkaline water brings in quite a number of health benefits. Apart from boosting immunity, it also helps in hydration. It neutralises the acidic toxins that are present in our body and reinforces it with essential minerals.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is researching on medicines, vaccines, and super foods, which could prevent us from being infected with the deadly virus. At the same time, everyone is trying to research on the best nutraceutical foods and beverage concoctions available. People have even gone to the extent of exhuming ancient scriptures for references to this infectious virus.
But we have missed on the essential research on water, especially Alkaline Water, and how it helps us to develop and boost our immunity.
Today in every household, we find an RO (Reverse Osmosis) or a water purifier. When water goes through these processes, it drains out the minerals and lowers the pH value, and thus we all are drinking dead water. We should take steps in consuming water which can boost our immune system, i.e. Alkaline Water.
Benefits of Alkaline Water
Alkaline water gets easily absorbed by the body — it helps neutralising the acidic toxins, it accelerates and improves the circulatory system by providing quality blood and oxygen to vital organs of the body. More so, it hampers and obstructs the growth of free radicals, thereby slowing the ageing process of the body is slow. Which is why sports nutritionist advice athletes and sportspersons to have a shot of alkaline water after workouts and sporting activities.
Alkaline water is also high in essential minerals — calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, with traces of copper and zinc which boost the body’s metabolism. Studies have shown that the right amount of alkaline water helps in preventing osteoporosis, protect pancreatic beta cells. The benefits are galore especially for people who stay in warmer and tropical climes. It strengthens the immune systems in fighting out the pathogens responsible for diseases and other health challenges.
Alkaline water maintains the body’s pH level: first ailments like acid reflux the unwanted stomach acid or bile, which irritates our body and causes chest burns, is cleared out immediately. These are harmful for our body and retard the functioning of the vital organs. To neutralise this acidic content, alkaline water is beneficial to give a quick boost to the pH level of the body. Ideally, a healthy human body needs the presence of both bases of alkaline and acids, but the ratio we should have is 51:49, keeping the alkaline (basic) nature just a little higher than the acids. It comes with a rider: Too much consumption of alkaline water is bad for the body as well.
You can make your own shot of alkaline water at home. Take one litre of filtered water or RO water but see that the pH is set at 6.5 or 7. Take one ripe and juicy lemon. One and half table spoon of sea salt or Himalayan Pink salt. Take an earthen pitcher and pour in the water, squeeze half of the lemon juice, slice the other half and put it into the pitcher. Add the said quantity of salt and stir well till the salt dissolves completely. Leave it overnight or let it rest for seven to eight hours. Then have it in your own convenience within eight to nine hours with a sprig of mint or any herb that suits your palate.
