New Delhi: A week after two groups clashed during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri, people of Hindu and Muslim communities took out a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in the capital’s northwest region on Sunday.
Fifty people each from the two communities participated in the yatra, which was held amid tight security.
Waving the national flag, they appealed for peace and harmony in the region. A photograph of BR Ambedkar was also on display.
“We formed a joint peace committee constituting members of both communities. They proposed to organize a Tiranga Yatra in Jahangirpuri and appeal to the people to maintain communal harmony,” DCP North-West Usha Rangani was quoted as saying by ANI.

Representatives from the two communities hugged each other and vowed to ensure the clashes of April 16 won’t be repeated.
More than 20 people have been arrested and two juveniles apprehended in connection with the Jahangirpuri violence. Ansar Sheikh, a scrap dealer, has been named as the prime accused.
