Sambalpur: With less rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, the authorities of Hirakud Dam closed all gates on Monday.
The water level of the reservoir by 9 am was 629.35 feet against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 630 feet.
While the inflow and outflow of the floodwater were 64,857 cusecs and 23,962 cusecs respectively, the discharge of the floodwater was 1.62 lakh cusecs at Khairmal, 1,47,125 cusecs at Barmul and 1,35,369 cusecs at Mundali.
The dam authorities on Sunday had opened two gates to release the floodwater.
However, the dam authorities will take a decision to reopen the gates as the deep depression over north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha has moved westwards towards Chhattisgarh and will weaken further into a depression during the next 12 hours.
