Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will provide piped water supply to all rural households by 2024-25, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pratap Jena informed the Assembly on Tuesday.
The minister said this in reply to questions by Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati and BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy.
Jena said as of now, piped water supply has been provided to 19,504 villages out of a total of 47,366 villages. “A number of mega and medium drinking water projects are under construction. After their completion, these projects will supply piped drinking water to the villages,” he added.
The minister informed that the state government has sanctioned Rs 17,372 crore for these projects, while the Centre has sanctioned only Rs 549 crore in the last five years.
