New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Budget Session, the NDA government has called for an all-party meeting on July 21 (Sunday).
The Budget Session of Parliament will commence on July 22.
“Subject to the exigencies of the Government Business, the session may conclude on August 12,” an official statement from the government read.
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju will conduct the meeting with the floor leaders of political parties in both the houses of the Parliament at 11am July 21 at Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi.
If he attends, then this will be the Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s first time at the customary session-eve all-party meeting.
Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP from Naveen Pattnaik-led BJD, Sasmit Patra, had hoped that the government at the centre would be open to free and fair discussion with the Opposition during the Budget session. “Hoping for a fruitful Budget Session from 22nd July to 12th August with the Union Budget on 23rd. Hope the Government will be open to a free and fair discussion with the Opposition parties on the floor of the Parliament and the discussions for Demand for Grants would be extensive and insightful. Let there be a spirit of accommodation from the side of the Government and a spirit of cooperation from the Opposition. And together would work towards fulfilling India’s aspirations of becoming the third largest economy of the world soon,” Patra posted on X.
The Trinamool Congress is likely to skip the meeting. No representatives from the party would attend the meeting as July 21 is observed as Martyrs Day by the Bengal’s ruling party, NDTV reported, quoting sources.
