Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday declared holiday for all schools on the occasion of agrarian festival ‘Nuakhai’ across the sate on September 9.
In a notification, the School and Mass Education (S&ME) department said all government, government-aided and private schools under the department will remain closed on September 9 (Monday) for the Nuakhai festival.
Since Nuakhai, an agrarian festival which is celebrated mostly in western Odisha with pomp and grandeur, falls on Sunday, the government has decided to keep the schools closed the following day, it added.
It may be noted that the government had earlier declared holiday for its offices on Monday.
All government offices, magisterial courts and educational institutions will remain closed on that day in the state, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had said on August 29.
