Hyderabad: Days after the death of a 35-year-old woman in a stampede at Sandhya Theatre, the ‘Pushpa 2’ star Allu Arjun announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for victim’s family.
The actor took to his X handle and shared a long video message, expressing his grief over the stampede, which ensued when Allu paid a surprise visit to Sandhya Theatre here to watch the premiere of his film with fans.
“From my side, I want to donate ₹25 lakh as a gesture to show I am there for you, especially for the children,” the actor was heard saying in the video.
The actor’s video message left internet divided. While a section of netizens lauded the ‘Pushpa’ actor for his thoughtfulness and kind gesture, others slammed the actor for showing fake remorse.
A user commented, “We appreciate it, but it would’ve been more genuine if you’d just spoken from the heart, kept it simple, and dressed casually. No need to wear a hoodie promoting your movie or have BGM while talking. RIP to the mother who lost her life💔💔💔 and may the family find peace🙏🙏🙏.”
Another angry fan wrote, “We all know then and there but you are saying you learnt about this next morning, clearly you are doing this as an obligation. You lost respect and I am ashamed of you.”
Following the incident, Telangana government banned special shows of leading actors in the state.
