Hyberabad: Telugu film actor Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with the death of a woman in a stampede at the premiere of his film in Hyderabad.
The stampede during a show of Pushpa 2: The Rule at iconic Sandhya Theatre in RTC X Cross Roads here on December 4 had left a 39-year-old woman dead and her 8-year-old son critical.
Meanwhile, a video of the arrest has surfaced, showing Allu Arjun objecting to the manner in which he was taken into custody from his residence at Jubilee Hills. He requested the police to allow him to finish his breakfast before being escorted away. His wife, Sneha Reddy, and father, Allu Aravind, are also seen during the tense exchange.
While Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, C V Anand, has officially confirmed the arrest of Telugu actor, he is likely to be produced before a magistrate later in the day.
Following a complaint by the family of the deceased women, a case was filed against Sandhya Theatre management, the actor, and his security team under Section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) of BNS at Chikkadpally police station.
Police said that they had no prior intimation that the film’s team would turn up for the premiere. “Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre leading to the death of a person and injury to others,” Deputy Commissioner of Police of Central Zone, Hyderabad Police, Akshansh Yadav had told The Indian Express at the time of filing the FIR.
The actor had earlier announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the bereaved family.
