Bhubaneswar: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) commemorated National Pollution Prevention Day with special programmes at its Paradip Pellet Plant and Dabuna Beneficiation Plant in Odisha
Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Paradip, Puskar Chandra Behera was the chief guest at the main event. Environment Engineer, SPCB-Paradip, Dibyalochan Mohapatra was also present along with senior AM/NS India officials, including Plant head C H Hariprasad, Head of Captive Power Plant Rajarshi Sinha, Head of Environment (Odisha) Suvendu Kumar Dash, and Manager (Environment) Debadatta Das. More than 100 employees and business partners also participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Behera emphasised the importance of pollution prevention as a responsibility to safeguard future generations while Mohapatra reflected on the significance of the day’s observance. Haripr
asad highlighted the adoption of advanced technologies by AM/NS India to reduce its pollution footprint and Sinha outlined key initiatives undertaken at the power plant to minimise emissions.
Dash, reflected on the lessons from the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, and stressed the urgency of reducing pollution to protect human civilisation.
The event culminated with a plantation drive within the plant premises.
An awareness session was also conducted at Dabuna Beneficiation Plant with a focus on sustainability and workplace excellence. During the programme, employees and associates were recognised for their commendable efforts in reducing waste generation, conserving water and electricity, implementing measures to control air and water pollution, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping across work areas.
The session also emphasised the importance of adopting sustainable practices to ensure long-term environmental responsibility with active participation of employees and associates.
National Pollution Prevention Day commemorates the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about pollution control, promoting sustainable practices, and encouraging industries and individuals alike to adopt measures that protect the environment.
