Srinagar: The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir has been cancelled due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
“It is not advisable to hold and conduct this year’s Amarnath Yatra and the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) has expressed its regret while announcing the cancellation of the same,” a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan said.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu, who is also the chairman of the SASB, on Tuesday.
However, the Board will continue to live telecast/virtual darshan of the morning and evening aarti. “Further, the traditional rituals will be carried out as per past practice. Also, the Chhadi Mubarak will be facilitated by the government,” it added.
