Ambedkar Row: Congress Twisted My Words, They Will Sit In Opposition For 15 Years Even If I Resign, Says Amit Shah

New Delhi: Under fire from the Opposition and facing a privilege notice for his remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar, a defiant Amit Shah launched a counterattack against the Congress on Wednesday.

Claiming that Congress had distorted his comments, the Union Home Minister said even if he were to resign as per Mallikarjun Kharge’s demand, the grand old party will still have to sit in the Opposition ranks for 15 years.

“Since yesterday, Congress has been presenting the facts in a distorted way and I condemn it… Congress is anti-BR Ambedkar, it is against reservation and the Constitution. Congress also insulted Veer Savarkar. By imposing Emergency, they violated all Constitutional values,” Shah said.

“They (the Congress) have distorted the comment I made in the Rajya Sabha. They made edited versions of Modiji’s speeches. I request the media to put my full statement in front of the people… I can never speak against Ambedkar, I come from a party which follows the ideals of Ambedkar,” Shah told reporters.

“I would have been happy if they had challenged the facts presented in my speech. Every word of my speech is factual and taken from history. That is why they are making such efforts by editing my speech and giving it a wrong meaning,” he added.

Turning his attention on Congress president Kharge, Shah said: “Kharge is asking for my resignation. If it will make him happy, I will.. but it won’t end his problems. He will have to sit in the same place (in the opposition) for 15 years… My resignation will not change that.”

The Home minister added that the BJP will examine all legal options, “inside and outside the Parliament” against the Congress for allegedly editing versions of his speech.
