Puri: An ambulance went up in flames while transporting a critically ill snakebite patient from Delang in the Puri district to Bhubaneswar on Sunday night.
According to sources, the moving vehicle caught fire near the Selfie Point at Pipili at around 11.15 am. The ambulance driver and medical staff acted swiftly and safely evacuated the patient. All present in the vehicle escaped in time, avoiding any injury or casualty.
On being informed, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
The patient was soon transferred to another ambulance and taken to the hospital in Bhubaneswar.
A possible short circuit in the ambulance’s battery is suspected to have caused the fire. Further investigation is underway
