Rayagada: An ambulance turned turtle after being hit by a passenger train in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Thursday.
According to sources, the incident took place when the ambulance was going to carry a patient from Brundabadi village under Bissamcuttack tehsil of the district. After crossing the level crossing at Brundabadi, the ambulance broke down on the train tracks. Despite several attempts of the driver, the ambulance did not start.
Meanwhile, Tapaswini Express passenger train from Rayagada to Sambalpur, which left Therubali station, was approaching Brundabadi level crossing. With the train fast approaching, the ambulance driver jumped from the vehicle to save himself.
On finding the ambulance on the track, the loco driver of the train also applied brake. But the train hit the ambulance at a slow speed, throwing it off the track. However, nobody has been injured in the accident.
The local people rushed to the spot and removed the ambulance from the train track. Tapaswini Express left the place 30 minutes later.
