New Delhi: As demands soar during the festive season, so do airfares.
To ensure that passengers don’t have to shell out exorbitant amounts while travelling home to be with their near and dear ones or going on a holiday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reviewed airfare trends and advised airlines to augment flight capacities.
In line with the policy of Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to monitor airfares, particularly during peak travel periods, DGCA engaged with different airlines to make sure the pricing is reasonable and sufficient capacity.
Major Indian carriers have announced plans to operate additional flights across multiple routes to accommodate the increased demand.
DGCA assured that it will continue to keep a regular and rigorous check on airfares and flight capacities to safeguard passenger interest throughout the festive period.
The country’s aviation regulator has, in recent years, been very vigilant in its monitoring and auditing mechanisms to enhance transparency and safety.
DGCA conducted 171 regulatory audits between 2020 and June 2025 as part of efforts to strengthen air safety standards, as per official data.
The horrific Air India crash in Ahmedabad in June prompted DGCA to undertake a series of comprehensive special audits covering scheduled and non-scheduled airlines, flying schools, and maintenance organisations to ensure strict compliance with safety norms.
