Kolkata: Amid the anti-rape protests in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, an abandoned bag in the hospital premises triggered bomb scare on Thursday.
After a black bag was found at the hospital, the bomb disposal squad was called in, reported the Republic TV. A dog squad had also reached.
The area was reportedly evacuated. The hospital has been the epicentre of protests after the brutal rape and murder of 31-year-old PGT doctor at its seminar hall.
Junior doctors have been agitating on the campus after the body of the doctor was recovered on August 9. They have resorted to a cease-work agitation even as the Supreme Court in its last hearing of the case requested the doctors to return to work.

When the abandoned bag was found at the hospital, not many junior doctors were present at the site as they had been staging a sit-in near the Swasthya Bhawan—that houses the health department offices—seeking resignation of top health officials and Kolkata Police Commissioner.
The agitating doctors have been demonstrating outside the ‘Swathya Bhawan’ for over 40 hours. On Wednesday, the Bengal government had rejected the demands of the junior doctors for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s presence at a meeting with them and a live broadcasting of the same.
