Mumbai: Even as people of the country are raising their voice against the rising cost of fuel, state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) increased the prices again on Sunday.

The prices of petrol and diesel touched a new high with Mumbai having to shell out the maximum among the four metros. While petrol costs Rs 87.89 a litre, diesel is priced at Rs 77.09 a litre here, according to the daily price notification issued by OMCs.

In Delhi, the petrol price reached a record high of Rs 80.50 a litre which diesel price spiraled to Rs 72.61 a litre, which is also at a record high but lowest among the four metros.

In Kolkata, petrol is available for Rs 83.39 per litre and diesel at Rs 75.46 per litre. Similarly, petrol is being sold for Rs 83.66 per litre in Chennai and the diesel at Rs 76.75 per litre.

The fuel prices are likely to go up further with the rupee hitting yet another all-time low of Rs 72.12 against the US dollar on Thursday and the price of Brent oil still hovering over $77 a barrel.

Meanwhile, Congress, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), DMK and the Samajwadi Party have called for Bharat Bandh, protesting the daily rise in fuel prices.
